Psychotherapy is to good to only be available for people with mental health problems. Exploring how we relate, how we were co created, how we interact and how we might improve ourselves can be of enormous benefit. To grow into confidence, to know more clearly what we want and need, to understand ourselves and the world around us, to make clear choices and not be overwhelmed by choice. To explore the ways in which we hold ourselves back and limit our horizons; In short, to live a full and meaningful life we must engage with it, and personal development is just one tool we can use to help us.
It is not uncommon for someone to come with one specific complaint, one area of life they wish to adress, change or understand in order to engage. It might be a private fear, a judgement or expectation, perhaps a desire to change a pattern of unhealthy behaviour. It might be an unrealistic out look, or a sense we need mroe meaning from life. It does not need to be long term therapy, often brief therapy of 6 weeks is plenty.
1-1 gives us a personal space inwhich to explore and develop any issue you bring, to find the ways we hinderourselves from engaging, to enliven our authentic selves so we can leave the roles we play behind.
I also offer a personal development group, it differs in that there is opportunity to explore ways of being with more than just me, your therapist. There may be times when you are vulnerable and need support, a group may offer that in different ways to 1-1 therapy. It can be a powerful and rarified time, in which great personal growth and strong relationships develop.
Throughout ther personal development I will employ experiments, contact exercises, dream work and Gestalt psychotherapy.
